standards for data cables

| Scope
of standards |
Cable
standardisation is based on the work of two main organisations. The IEC is
reponsible for international standards. This organisation writes standards
that are valid worldwide. There are additional organisations for Europe,
the CENELEC. On the direction of the EU and EFTA, CENELEC bolsters safety
guidelines with standards. This is the main reason that most of the
European countries demand that Euro Standards (EN) are the standards
followed.
System standards ISO/IEC 11801 and EN 50173 serve as the directive
documents for standardising data cables. Chapters 7 or 8 here formulate
the basic requirements and defined in the following documents. |

international documents specify the data cables of category 3, 4 and
5, not only for installation cables and backbone cables, but also for
work area and patch cables. In their requirements, they are almost
identical to the leading European standards
HD608, EN50167, EN50168 und EN50169. |

| These
standards should replace the old documents (HD 608, EN 50167, EN 50168
and EN 50169) in the future. They form a new structure of the
standards part for symmetrical and multi-element cables for
communication and control that allows specifying new documents
depending on market requirements and allows incorporating them into
the specification. These standards were completed in 1997 and were
issued for agreement in 1998. An additional document for cables to 200
MHz has been worked on since January 1998. |
